Real Madrid are close to a ‘final agreement’ with Monaco to sign highly-rated midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, 90min understands.
The French international has long been linked with a move away from Ligue 1 side Monaco, having burst onto the scene with some wonderful performances at both club and international level in recent seasons.
90min revealed last week that Real Madrid had been locked in talks with Monaco regarding Tchouameni but the clubs had been some way off in their evaluation of the 22-year-old. The European champions had entered talks hoping to sign the player for £50m, but Monaco were keen to hold out for around £68m.
Now we understand that there has been a breakthrough in negotiations, with Madrid now willing to raise their bid to snag the player ahead of Liverpool, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Add-ons will ensure that Monaco will get over £70m for their star man.
Listen now to 90min’s brand new podcast, Talking Transfers, with Scott Saunders, Graeme Bailey & Toby Cudworth. This week they discuss whether Sadio Mane will leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich, Manchester United’s pursuit of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, Newcastle’s plans for Moussa Diaby and Sven Botman & Jorginho’s future at Chelsea.
In terms of personal terms, 90min have been informed that Tchouameni agreed these with Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool and Chelsea, but made it clear in the last week that his preference was to join the newly-crowned European champions.
Recently in an interview with CNN, the French starlet stated that he ‘just wants to win’: “I’m an ambitious person. Every time I do something…I just want to win,” he said. “If I want to be great, I have to adapt to find some stuff that will allow me to grow as a player.
“I like both [countries]: I can watch Spanish games and English games. It’s different to play in Spain and it’s different to play in England, but at the end, for me, it’s just a matter of adaptation.”
