Questions are being raised over reports that the Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and flag bearer of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP), has ordered and provided financial support for the construction of 5,280 Dual Desk furniture
to support 66 schools in the West Mamprusi Municipality.
The heapest dual desks in Ghana cost GHC550.00 (five hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis) and the most expensive can
cost as much as GHC1,750.00 (one thousand, seven hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis). It means that the Vice
President, if he is indeed buying the desks, could be donating anything between GHC3000,000.00 to nine million
Ghana Cedis!
Any of the two figures mean that the Vice President is in control of considerable funds to be able to make such a
donation.
The request for the desks was supposed to have been made to the NPP flag bearer by the West Mamprusi Municipal
Assembly and the West Mamprusi Municipal Education Oversight Committee.
The news about the donation came in a statement issued by Mr Arimeyaw Somo Lucky Basintale, the MCE for
Walewale.
The Vice President, in his response to the request, directed the West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly to construct
5,280 Dual Desks to support about 10,000 pupils in various schools in the municipality.
It was the second time the Vice President had supported education with furniture for the past three years, as he gave
1,000 Dual Desks in 2022 to the District Assembly for distribution.
The 66 schools to benefit from the 5,280 Dual Desks include the following:
