The Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has urged religious leaders across the country to formally submit any prophecy or spiritual insight of national significance to its office for urgent review.
In a statement issued Sunday, August 10, 2025, Mr Afriyie Ankrah noted that the directive specifically applies to prophecies relating to high-profile political leaders, governance, national security, or public stability.
The move, according to the statement, is aimed at ensuring responsibility, discernment, and proper stewardship over the nation’s destiny, especially in these times of uncertainty.
The statement also appealed for intense prayers for the President, the government, state institutions, bereaved families, and the nation, following a recent tragic accident involving government officials, military personnel, and NDC party executives.
The Daily Searchlight knows the reason in principle for the directive. The level of irresponsibility being demonstrated in Ghana by so-called ‘spiritual leaders’ verge on the absurd. Some of the ‘spiritual revelations’ are frankly criminal talk targeted at high personalities with the intent of blackmailing these national leaders to visit the prophets in the dead of night with gifts and cash.
This frankly criminal conduct has reached a stage where they affront many well-meaning Ghanaians. Many people wish that there could be a way to stop this obscene behavior, and it would seem that the attempt by the envoy is in this direction.
Unfortunately, the only tool available to him would be moral suasion, since the 1992 Constitution recognizes free speech and religious expression.
That being the case, it would be helpful if the people who are ‘prophesied’ about would go the extra mile of taking court (civil) action against the evil men and women who hide under the guise of the religious clothe to terrorize their fellow Ghanaians for money.
This surely would go a long way towards bringing sanity.
