Authorities within the Ghana Police Service have detained outspoken social commentator and relationship adviser Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, widely recognised by the public as Counsellor Lutterodt, in connection with statements he allegedly made in a widely circulated video that investigators believe encouraged young individuals to invade the residence of the late Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba.
The arrest was carried out by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department following a preliminary inquiry into the remarks captured in the viral footage. Law enforcement officials indicated that the comments attributed to Mr Lutterodt concerned matters surrounding the deceased musician and were interpreted by investigators as provocative statements capable of disturbing public order.
In an official communication released by the police service, authorities explained that their investigation concluded that the remarks contained language considered offensive and potentially capable of triggering public unrest. The police emphasised that such statements could encourage conduct likely to disturb communal peace and security.
The video in question rapidly spread across social media platforms, attracting intense public debate and criticism from sections of the Ghanaian public who regarded the statements as inappropriate in light of the cultural reverence surrounding the legacy of Daddy Lumba, one of the country’s most influential highlife performers whose music has shaped generations of Ghanaian popular culture.
Following his detention, Mr Lutterodt was later granted police bail in accordance with established legal procedures. However authorities have indicated that he remains subject to ongoing criminal proceedings and has been instructed to appear before a court of law on Wednesday 11 March 2026 to respond to the allegations formally.
According to the police statement, the outspoken counsellor is expected to face legal accusations relating to offensive conduct considered likely to provoke a breach of public peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960. Investigators have additionally indicated that the charges may extend to allegations of inciting violence under provisions contained within both the same criminal statute and the Public Order Act 1994.
Legal analysts note that offences involving conduct capable of provoking public disorder are treated with particular seriousness under Ghanaian criminal law because such actions have the potential to trigger unrest within communities. Authorities therefore frequently intervene when statements or activities appear likely to mobilise groups in ways that threaten public safety.
The incident has once again placed Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt at the centre of national attention, as the media personality has previously attracted controversy for provocative public commentary on social and relationship issues.
Meanwhile, the investigation continues as authorities prepare to present the matter before the court, where prosecutors are expected to outline the details of the allegations and the evidence gathered during the inquiry. The case is anticipated to draw considerable public interest given the involvement of a high profile commentator and the sensitive cultural significance attached to the legacy of the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba.
