A former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Shiela Bartels, has expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will regain power in the 2028 general elections.
She said the party is repositioning itself to reconnect with the electorate after its defeat in 2024.
Speaking on JoyPrime on Wednesday, April 1, Bartels said the NPP has reflected on its shortcomings and is taking steps to rebuild internal structures and grassroots engagement.
“We were too laid back. We were not engaging our people. We were not involving our people,” she said.
She added that efforts are ongoing to unify party members at the constituency level and strengthen mobilisation, particularly in key areas like Ablekuma North.
The NPP stalwart further accused some members of the NDC of misleading the public while in opposition, insisting that Ghanaians are beginning to recognise inconsistencies in their messaging.
“So many of these things that they said at the time… were false, and we know all Ghanaians are seeing it,” she stated.
She stressed that the NPP has a strong chance of winning back public trust, expressing belief that voters will reassess their choices ahead of the 2028 polls.
Meanwhile, as part of plans to rebuild and recapture power in the next generation elections, the main opposition party on January 31, 2026, re-elected former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer.
