The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned individuals lobbying to be selected as running mate to immediately halt their activities. Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra today, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua stated that such campaigns are unauthorized and must cease. He emphasized that the prerogative to recommend a running mate rests solely with the Flagbearer and the Council of Elders, and no individual should arrogate that right to themselves. He further urged the media to disregard these unsanctioned campaigns and warned that those engaging individuals and party activists to promote themselves risk sanctions.

According to Mr. Kodua, the party has a clear constitutional procedure and criteria for selecting a running mate, and the current lobbying is unhealthy and not sanctioned by the party.
In a related development, the General Secretary announced new guidelines for aspirants seeking to contest as parliamentary candidates for the 2028 elections. He indicated that from November 1st to 10th, interested members should declare their intent through the official channels. A portal has been opened for aspirants to complete forms, pay the required fees, and await clearance.
He explained that under the new framework, the party will vet, select, and train prospective candidates to ensure competence and peace at the constituency level, stressing that any violation of the directives will not be tolerated as the move is aimed at presenting more suitable parliamentary candidates.
