The National Fishers and Processors Traders Association (NAFPTA) has extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, during a meeting aimed at addressing key concerns affecting the fisheries sector.
At the meeting, NAFPTA members expressed their excitement over the Minister’s appointment and pledged their full support in ensuring the supply of safe and high-quality fish to meet the nutritional needs of Ghanaians.
They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining industry standards and promoting sustainability within the fisheries sector.
Among the issues raised, the Association emphasized the importance of ensuring the wholesomeness of fish from the moment it is landed on the beach to guarantee consumer safety.
Additionally, members appealed to the Ministry for support in improving access to loans, which they say would help enhance their businesses and overall industry growth.
In response, Hon. Emelia Arthur commended NAFPTA for its dedication and its critical role in strengthening Ghana’s food security. She acknowledged the Association’s contributions to making fish more accessible and safer for consumption and encouraged members to work closely with the Ministry.
“We must be united to work together to achieve the same goal,” the Minister stated, calling for greater collaboration between industry stakeholders to tackle challenges and improve productivity in the fisheries sector.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both the Ministry and NAFPTA to foster a resilient and sustainable fisheries industry for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
