Authorities within the Ghana Police Service have initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the disturbing death of a senior officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rockson Gyasi, whose lifeless body was discovered at his private residence in Akweteyman during the early hours of Friday, March 13, 2026.
The investigation is being spearheaded by the Tesano Divisional Police Command following what officials have formally classified as an unnatural death. The incident has generated profound concern within security circles and among members of the public, given the seniority of the officer involved and the unsettling circumstances under which his body was found.
According to preliminary accounts provided by investigators, the late officer had been serving in the town of Tsito in the Volta Region before travelling to Accra earlier in the week to spend time with his family. Reports indicate that he arrived at the residence on Tuesday, March 10.
The tragic discovery was made by his wife, Mavis Boateng, who contacted the police shortly before dawn after encountering a distressing scene inside their home. Law enforcement records show that the emergency report reached the Tesano police station at approximately 5:46 in the morning.
Information contained in the official situational report prepared by responding officers indicates that Mrs. Boateng had awakened at about 5:00 am and proceeded into the kitchen area of the house, where she encountered her husband lying motionless on the floor surrounded by blood. Alarmed by the discovery, she immediately notified the authorities.
When police personnel arrived at the residence, they found the senior officer lying on his back. A detailed visual examination conducted at the scene revealed significant injuries on both sides of his face, raising serious questions about the sequence of events that preceded his death. Investigators also discovered the officer’s service pistol resting on a stool positioned beside the body within the kitchen area.
As detectives began reconstructing the final hours of the officer’s life, they uncovered digital evidence that has added another layer of complexity to the unfolding investigation. Officers examining his communications discovered that on the same day he returned home, Tuesday, March 10, he had sent several messages to his wife through the messaging platform WhatsApp.
According to investigators familiar with the early stages of the inquiry, the messages contained language suggesting that he was “going back to where he came from.” That phrase is now being carefully analysed by detectives, who are seeking to determine whether it represents a farewell message, an expression of deep emotional distress, or a statement with an entirely different meaning.
Specialist forensic personnel from the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service were subsequently dispatched to the residence to process the scene. These crime scene experts carried out a detailed forensic examination of the premises and documented key elements of the investigation, including photographic records of the environment, the firearm recovered at the scene, and digital evidence extracted from the officer’s communications.
These materials have now been incorporated into the official investigative dossier and will be subjected to further analysis as detectives attempt to establish the precise sequence of events that culminated in the officer’s death.
Following the completion of the initial on site procedures, the body of Deputy Superintendent Rockson Gyasi was transported to the mortuary at the Police Hospital. Medical specialists there are expected to conduct a post mortem examination that may provide crucial insight into the cause of death and help determine whether the fatal injury resulted from self inflicted harm, accidental discharge of a firearm, or another set of circumstances.
Officials from the Tesano Division have indicated that the investigation remains active and that authorities are carefully reviewing both forensic evidence and witness statements as they attempt to clarify what transpired inside the residence. Police leadership has emphasised that the inquiry will seek to establish not only the physical circumstances surrounding the discharge of the weapon but also the psychological condition of the officer in the hours leading up to the tragedy.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement authorities have assured the public that additional information will be released when verified findings emerge. The case has already drawn significant attention within Ghana’s security community, where colleagues and observers alike await answers about the circumstances surrounding the death of a seasoned officer whose career had been dedicated to public service.
