Sunyani, June 20, GNA -The much-anticipated ‘Meko Bono’ homecoming and the festival are set to begin on Saturday, June 25 and end on Sunday, July 3 this year at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani.
The event is being organised by the ‘Bonofie’, a local event organisation promoting the socio-cultural and economic development of the ‘Bonos’, in collaboration with the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Sunyani Traditional Council, Bono Regional Coordinating Council, Centre for National Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
The one-week programme on the theme:”Unifying Our People for Development through Tourism and Culture,” would officially be opened on Saturday, June 25 with a float and carnival through the principal streets of Sunyani.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency about the activities on Monday in Sunyani, Mr Obiba Kaakyire, the Public Relations Officer of ‘Bonofie’, said everything was on course, stressing the stage had been set for a successful event.
He said between Saturday, June 25 and Saturday, July 2 there would be a trade fair alongside with health screening exercise at the Jubilee Park.
Mr. Kaakyire added there would be a tour of the Buoyem caves and sacred grooves, Techiman North District in the Bono East Region and Duasidan Monkey Sanctuary in the Dormaa Central Municipality of Bono Region on the Sunday, June 26.
He said Friday, July 1 would be football competition at the Sunyani Technical University park, involving tertiary institutions, as well radio presenters against serial callers and the ultimate winner would be rewarded with a trophy and a goat.
He said a grand durbar of the chiefs and people of the region, which is expected to be attended by invited dignitaries nationwide, would be held on Saturday July 2 at the Jubilee Park to climax the maiden event.
Mr Kaakyire said the organisers consulted the various paramount chiefs in the Bono Region, the Regional Minister, Police Chiefs and some personalities for guidance for the successful implementation of the event.
