Speaking to journalists ahead of the first sitting of the Second Session of the 9th Parliament, Mr. Ayariga explained that the proposed change is part of a wider initiative to align public institutions with Ghana’s democratic values and national identity. “Government intends to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport,” he stated, emphasizing that a bill will be formally presented to Parliament in accordance with established legal procedures.

The Majority Leader stressed that such decisions must be firmly rooted in law and guided by the collective will of the Ghanaian people. He noted that while the renaming reflects a broader vision of national representation, it is expected to spark robust public debate due to the historical and symbolic significance of the airport’s existing name.

Parliament is expected to play a central role in scrutinizing and deliberating on the matter once the proposal is formally submitted, ensuring that any changes are carefully considered within the framework of legal and democratic processes. The announcement marks the beginning of a discussion that could redefine one of Ghana’s most recognised gateways to the world.
