In a post on X on Sunday, December 8, 2024, Mr. Mahama wrote: “I have, this morning, received a congratulatory call from my brother Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, following my emphatic victory in Saturday’s election.”

Dr. Bawumia, during a press conference, conceded defeat and acknowledged Mr. Mahama’s lead, describing him as Ghana’s President-elect.

“I have just called His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him as President-elect of the Republic of Ghana,” Dr. Bawumia announced. “The people of Ghana have spoken; the people have voted for change at this time, and we respect that decision with all humility.”

He explained that his early concession aimed to safeguard the nation’s peace and stability. “My concession speech ahead of the EC’s official announcement is to avoid further tension and preserve the peace of our country,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia also recognized the NDC’s victory in the parliamentary elections, which secures the party a majority in the next Parliament.

“Former President Mahama and the NDC have won the presidential election decisively, while the NDC has also won the parliamentary election, although they are still waiting for the final collation,” he added.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is yet to officially declare the winner of Saturday’s polls and announce the President-elect.
