The Government of Ghana has officially reverted the name of Kotoka International Airport to its original designation, Accra International Airport.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Aviation, officials explained that the airport was initially known as Accra International Airport before it was redesignated. After review, the government determined it appropriate to restore the facility to its former and internationally recognised name.

The Ministry reassured the public that the change will not disrupt airport operations, compromise safety standards, or affect international travel arrangements. It further clarified that the airport’s ICAO code has consistently remained “ACC,” ensuring continuity in global aviation systems.

The renaming process will include systematic updates across official documentation, statutory instruments where applicable, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and other communication materials. Authorities emphasised that careful coordination will ensure a seamless transition without operational disruptions.

The government urged the public, stakeholders, and international partners to cooperate with relevant authorities throughout the transition period. The Ministry also expressed gratitude to all parties for their continued support in maintaining the smooth functioning of the airport and the wider aviation sector.
