In a statement issued to mark the occasion, Hon. Mutawakilu extended warm greetings to customers and stakeholders nationwide, highlighting the significance of this year’s theme, “Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows.” He noted that access to safe and reliable water is not only a fundamental human need but also a critical tool for promoting inclusion, dignity, and socio-economic development.

According to him, equitable water access plays a transformative role in empowering women and girls, reducing inequalities, and strengthening communities across the country. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to building a resilient, efficient, and customer-focused utility capable of delivering sustainable water supply to all Ghanaians, irrespective of location or socio-economic background.

He further underscored Ghana Water Ltd’s alignment with government’s objective of achieving universal access to safe water, as well as its contribution to Sustainable Development Goal 6, which seeks to ensure clean water and sanitation for all.

Despite these commitments, the Managing Director acknowledged several persistent challenges confronting the sector, including the increasing pollution of water bodies, rising costs of water treatment due to deteriorating raw water quality, aging infrastructure, and growing demand driven by rapid urbanisation and population growth.

To address these issues, he indicated that the company is rolling out a series of strategic interventions aimed at improving service delivery. These include the expansion and rehabilitation of water supply systems, investment in modern treatment technologies, strengthened collaboration with government and development partners, improved operational efficiency, and measures to reduce water losses.

Hon. Mutawakilu stressed that Ghana Water Ltd remains resolute in its mission to provide safe, reliable, and affordable water to every Ghanaian.

He also called on the public to support these efforts by paying water bills promptly, adopting responsible water usage practices, protecting water bodies from pollution, and refraining from illegal connections and other activities that undermine the operations of the utility.

“Water is life, and its sustainability depends on the collective effort of all of us,” he stated, urging citizens to reaffirm their commitment to ensuring a water-secure future for the nation.

The statement concluded with a call for strengthened community participation in environmental protection, emphasizing that sustainable water management is essential to national development and social equity.
