The operation, undertaken in collaboration with the Ministries of Defence, Finance, and Roads and Highways, forms part of the preparatory activities required to advance one of Ghana’s most significant planned road infrastructure projects.

The successful completion of the exercise represents a significant milestone in efforts to prepare the expressway corridor for the subsequent phases of development. By clearing the designated right of way ahead of schedule, the participating institutions have created the necessary space for further technical and construction activities to proceed along the planned route.

Engineers from the Ghana Armed Forces worked alongside officials from the relevant government institutions throughout the operation, bringing the military’s engineering capabilities into the implementation of a major civilian infrastructure initiative.

The achievement also highlights the expanding role of the Ghana Armed Forces in supporting national development through specialised engineering and technical operations, particularly in projects that require coordinated mobilisation, logistical capacity and disciplined execution.

The Armed Forces described the accomplishment as a demonstration of delivering its assigned mission ahead of schedule, while GAF engineers reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high standards of engineering practice and ensuring that their operations remain focused on efficiency and timely delivery.

The 175.6 kilometre stretch cleared by the military constitutes an important portion of the proposed Accra Kumasi Expressway corridor, which is expected to strengthen transportation links between Ghana’s political and commercial capital and Kumasi, the country’s major inland commercial centre.

The proposed expressway is intended to improve connectivity along the Accra Kumasi corridor while supporting more efficient movement of people, goods and services between communities and economic centres located along the route.

The latest achievement comes as the government continues preparations for the wider road project, with the clearance of the right of way serving as one of the essential steps required before subsequent phases can be undertaken.

The collaboration involving the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ministries of Defence, Finance, and Roads and Highways is consequently expected to facilitate the government’s broader efforts to move the project forward.

Beyond the immediate infrastructure objective, the operation demonstrates how the technical capabilities of the military can be deployed in support of national development priorities. The early completion of the assignment also provides an indication of the pace at which preparatory activities can be executed when government institutions coordinate their resources and responsibilities effectively.

With 175.6 kilometres now cleared in 19 weeks, the focus is expected to shift towards the next stages of preparations for the proposed expressway as government works to advance the project and improve transportation infrastructure along one of Ghana’s most important intercity corridors.

The completion of the clearance exercise one week ahead of schedule therefore marks a significant preparatory achievement for the Accra Kumasi Expressway and places the project a step closer to its subsequent implementation stages.
