Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has stated that he has no intention of leaving the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite moves by the party to initiate processes to expel him over recent public comments.

The former minister also made it clear that he will not honour any invitation from either the National Executive Committee or the Disciplinary Committee of the party.

“I will not go there. Because of who is there? I will not go there at all. I won’t waste my time,” he said.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks come after the NPP confirmed that it has triggered disciplinary proceedings against him following comments in which he described the party as “fake” and accused its current leadership of abandoning the party’s founding principles.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on Tuesday, January 13, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng insisted that he remains a true member of the NPP, arguing that those he describes as “fake elements” within the party should rather be the ones to exit.

“No, I’m not leaving the party. They should leave the party. They are the fake ones. They should go away, and the true party will stand,” he stated.

He further accused the party’s current leadership and membership of destroying the NPP, calling for a complete reset to restore the party to its original ideals.

“I don’t care about former President or no former President. As the party stands now, everyone you see who is part of it has destroyed the party. Everyone should quit so that the party, as it was founded in Ghana, can be restored. Then the NPP will stand,” he added.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s comments follow an earlier interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV, hosted by Bernard Avle, where he described the NPP as a “fake party” and said he no longer associated himself with its current structure.

In the same interview, he also alleged that the 2023 NPP presidential primary was manipulated in favour of then Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In response, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, issued a statement condemning the remarks, describing them as “highly reprehensible” and inconsistent with the party’s values, unity, and integrity.

The party rejected the description of the NPP as fake and dismissed the allegations of manipulation in the presidential primary as unsubstantiated.

However, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng doubled down on his criticism in a subsequent interview on Asempa FM, sharply rebuking party executives over the expulsion move.

“Look at how we lost the 2024 election: abuse of power, corruption, arrogance. The party could not stand up to anybody. Everybody was doing what they wanted. Now you say you want to remove someone from the party? To hell with them,” he said.

He further alleged that party executives manipulated internal processes, including bribing and intimidating delegates to support preferred candidates, a practice he said contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

“Instead of the executives writing a report for everyone to read and contribute, they are covering up issues and preparing us to go into another election with the same format. It is very bad. The executives should leave, and the party will stand,” he added.

Asked whether he still considers himself a member of the NPP, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said he does not associate with what he described as the party’s current version, insisting that the “real” NPP still exists in principle.

“Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background,” he said.

He reiterated his allegations regarding the party’s internal elections, describing the conduct of the presidential primary as a dangerous precedent.

“Twisting people’s arms, bribing delegates, intimidating others to get a flagbearer this is the beginning of corruption. This should not be allowed in any serious institution or serious political party,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the NPP has maintained that it is proceeding with disciplinary action in line with the party’s constitution.
