Four people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus along the Peki stretch in the Volta Region on Sunday, June 21, in a crash that has left several others injured and triggered renewed concerns about road safety on major intercity routes.
The bus, which was en route from Accra to Dambai, reportedly veered off the main road and plunged into a roadside ditch under circumstances that remain unclear, resulting in multiple casualties among the passengers on board.
A total of 28 individuals, including the driver and the bus mate, were on board at the time of the accident. Emergency and rescue reports confirm that four passengers lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity.
Among those affected are two pregnant women who were also passengers on the ill fated journey. Reports indicate that one of the women was approximately six months pregnant, while the other was five months pregnant, raising additional concern over the scale and sensitivity of the tragedy.
Medical teams are currently attending to the injured survivors, with authorities confirming that two victims are in critical condition and receiving urgent care at designated health facilities.
Emergency responders, supported by security personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene following the crash to assist with rescue operations. Injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals and clinics for immediate treatment as efforts continued to stabilize those in serious condition.
