Speaking on Channel One News, Assistant Divisional Officer Alex King Nartey of the Fire Service disclosed that the fatalities occurred in separate flooding incidents across different locations within the capital. He explained that emergency teams were still actively engaged in response operations as assessments continued in affected communities.

According to the official account, one of the victims was a man believed to be in his sixties who died at Alajo after being caught in rising floodwaters. Emergency personnel indicated that they were awaiting police support to facilitate the retrieval and preservation of the body in accordance with standard procedures.

He further confirmed that three additional deaths were recorded in other parts of the city. These include a woman and her child who lost their lives at Achimota Alogboshie, as well as another male victim who died at Achimota Abofu. The Fire Service emphasized that these are the confirmed fatalities so far, while investigations and verification of other reports of possible deaths are still ongoing.

Authorities stressed that while there are indications of additional casualties, no further confirmations have been made as verification processes continue in collaboration with other emergency and security agencies. The situation remains fluid as responders continue to assess the full scale of the disaster.

The heavy rainfall, which began around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night and persisted into Monday morning, triggered widespread flooding across Accra and parts of the Greater Accra Region. The downpour overwhelmed drainage systems, submerged roads, and forced residents in several communities to abandon their homes as water levels rose rapidly.

Major transportation corridors were severely affected, including the Kasoa–SCC–Mallam highway, where floodwaters covered significant stretches of the road. Motorists were forced to abandon vehicles, while others became trapped in prolonged traffic congestion as movement was brought to a standstill.

Numerous feeder roads connecting surrounding communities were also rendered impassable, effectively cutting off access routes and complicating emergency response efforts. The disruption extended beyond transportation, affecting commerce, mobility, and basic daily activities across the capital.

Emergency response teams continue to operate in affected areas, carrying out rescue assessments, clearing operations, and coordination with local authorities as Accra grapples with the aftermath of one of its most severe rainfall events in recent times.
