The Nsawam District Police Command has apprehended five individuals suspected to be behind the abduction of two men who were travelling from Accra to Anyinam. The victims were successfully rescued without sustaining any injuries, following a swift and coordinated police operation.
According to official police briefings, the Command received actionable intelligence on January 10, 2026, indicating that the two men had been forcibly taken to an undisclosed location. Investigators revealed that the suspects contacted the victims’ relatives and demanded a ransom of GH¢400,000 for their release. They later instructed the family to make an initial payment of GH¢5,000 as a sign of compliance.
Upon receiving the tip-off, officers from the Nsawam District Command, working in close collaboration with the Suhum Police, devised a strategy to track and intercept the suspects. The operation culminated at a drinking spot near the Suhum Roundabout, where all five alleged kidnappers were lured and arrested without incident.
The suspects have been named as Suleman Salifu, 24; Godfred Owusu, 26; Antwi Bismark, 27; Anas Salis, 38; and Gyamfi Isaac, 33. The rescued victims were identified as Seidu Sambiane, 28, and Ibrahim Alhassan, 42.
A subsequent search of the unregistered Acura 4×4 vehicle believed to have been used in carrying out the crime led to the discovery of several incriminating items. These included an unspecified quantity of counterfeit GH¢100 and GH¢200 notes, sheets of paper cut to resemble currency, and an amount of GH¢4,600 in cash. Law enforcement officers also recovered a locally manufactured pistol, a machete, multiple talismans and charms, and five mobile phones.
Police sources say the recovered items suggest the suspects may have been involved in other criminal activities, including fraud and armed robbery. The presence of talismans and amulets, investigators noted, points to the possible use of superstition or ritualistic beliefs as part of their operations.
The suspects remain in police custody and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities have assured the public that they will be arraigned before court once preliminary inquiries are completed.
The Ghana Police Service has commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and timely response, reiterating its commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring the safety of citizens on major highways and within communities.
