Report by Bernard K DADZIE
Building Expert, Ing. Sammuel Kwadwo Bamfo of Adwempa Construction and Engineering Services has called on government to empower various district assemblies to constantly supervise construction by government and the private sector in their districts.
The construction industry over the years has experienced a rampant collapse of buildings in some cities in the country.
Speaking to this reporter on some of the causes of the collapse of buildings during his 70th birthday celebration, ,Ing Sammuel Kwadwo Bamfo said the Ministry of Works and Housing mandated to oversee construction works always focuses on government projects only, leaving private sector construction at the mercy of the weather.
According to him, it will be prudent for the Ministry to empower the the works department of every assembly so they can take actions against illegal construction(building without permits)
“The Law state it clearly that before you before start any construction one needs to get permits before even clearing the site for the construction, but you will see all over the place buildings marked to stop working and produce permits.”
Ing. Samuel Kwadwo Bamfo used the occasion to advised Ghanaians to seek for technical advice before starting a project because in construction there a lot of materials for a specific project,. He stated that for instance there are cement for moulding of blocks only and some for mixing of concrete.
