The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana who doubles as former Minister of Finance, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has picked his nomination forms to contest in the flagbearership race of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
On Thursday, February 23, 2023, a team picked up the forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra on behalf of the businessman to enable him to contest in the internal elections.
The Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser, Gloria Huze, who led the team to pick the forms, was impressed with the reception by party officials and assured that Dr. Kwabena Duffour would follow all the regulations to submit the documents.
The women organizer indicated that the Ashanti Women’s Wing decided to buy the forms for Dr. Duffour because of the suffering women within the party are going through at the grassroots level.
She was happy with the reception given by party officials led by Chairman of the Internal Elections Committee, Ernest Kakra Essamuah, and assured that Dr. Duffour will follow all the regulations to submit the forms.
She indicated that the Ashanti Women’s Wing decided to buy the forms for Dr. Duffour because of the suffering women within the party are going through at the grassroots level.
Madam Huze said the 2024 presidential elections will, therefore, need a courageous candidate like Dr. Duffour to lead the NDC to save the masses, particularly women, from the hands of the current administration.
Already, presumptive candidate John Dramani Mahama, former Kumasi mayor Kojo Bonsu, and one Ernest Kwaku Kobeah have picked forms to contest the May 13 polls. They picked the forms on Day 1 of the opening of nominations.
Receiving the forms at his office at Osu Dr. Kwabena Duffour explained that extensive surveys carried out across the country and among the grassroots, revealed that the people of Ghana want to change the direction of our governance.
“The people want that change to be led by a new face. A new face and a new man who has the practical know-how, who has a traceable track record, and who will lead Ghana from the front with integrity and love for his people.”
According to him, a political system and a party where the grassroots will own their political decisions devoid of imposition from the top, and reject efforts to usurp the power that belongs to the grassroots.
“Over the years, this Lauderdale idea was lost to the party. NDC has become a party where the people who matter most were neglected and disrespected. Our branch executives and workers on the grounds have gone and still are going through rejection, neglect, and pain from the few that they have elected to lead them,” he said.
Under my leadership, he noted the true meaning of power to the people Sha be brought to reality in the country. The constituencies and branch executives Shall be empowered politically but more importantly economically, to fully participate in the Democratic processes of the NDC and Ghana.
Touching on the “AHOTOR Project” the former finance minister said is one of the many economic empowerment projects and programs that shall be rolled out under his leadership.
“Under no circumstances should any party worker be unemployed and hungry whiles carrying our party duties. It is a gross disrespect to see our grassroots unemployed, financially stressed, and hungry and yet expect them to dutifully carry out party activities. This can never guarantee the independence of the NDC, and this cannot safeguard the long-term benefits of the NDC and Ghana’s development,” he stressed.
