D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid will be out for two to three months after undergoing left hand surgery on June 30.

The procedure worked to repair the traumatic rupture of a distal intermetacarpal ligament.

With Hamid’s recovery timeline slating a return to goal in late September, D.C. United is expected to lean on goalkeeper Rafael Romo. The Venezuelan international joined in late April after completing a transfer from OH Leuven in the Belgian first division.

Jon Kempin will likely remain as a backup for interim head coach Chad Ashton.

Hamid’s injuries limited his playing time to just 10 games this year, last appearing before the June international window on May 28. He stands as one of the team’s most experienced players, managing 279 regular-season appearances since his debut in 2010.
