Four Chinese miners sustained various degrees of gun injuries after a group of armed robbers stormed their site at Akyem Akokoaso in Ofoase Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern region.
The incident happened at about 7.00 to 8.00 pm on Friday.
It is reported that the rubbers numbered about twenty and carried away some gold bars and an unspecified amount of money.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbers upon storming the camp warned that their target was not against the workers, but that they wanted money and gold, and that they would only shoot if they were resisted.
“All lay down after the warning shots,” one witness stated.
Four Chinese personnel who resisted were shot. One was shot in the groin affecting his testicles, and the others were shot in the legs.
The injured were initially taken to the Brenase Hospital, and later to the New Abirem Government Hospital.
The company is called Jia Xin, and is believed to have been working in the area for several years.
None of the Ghanaian workers were shot.
