Letter To The Editor
Dear Sir,
Please allow me some space in your popular newspaper to express my views on the recent events in Ghana’s parliament.
It’s gradually but unnoticeably becoming abundantly clear that some members of parliament on the minority NDC side are of malicious intents in running parliamentary business. The scuffle that occurred at Ghana’s parliament on Monday the 20th of December, 2021 was undoubtedly a disgrace to our democracy and must be condemned by all. Moreso the Speaker, Mr. Agbin Gabgin, should be blamed for the uproar that resulted in the scuffle. The genesis of the entire drama seems to be an orchestrated plan by the NDC MPs that was to be initiated by the Speaker, Mr. Gabgin. For how could he had sat down from the beginning of proceedings and decided to vacate his chair when he knew clearly that there was going to be a vote on a bill.
It was planned by the NDC parliamentary caucus that when it comes to the voting the Speaker would leave the house so that the deputy, Mr. Osei Wusu, of the NPP would take over and could not vote for the NPP parliamentary caucus to utilize their thin majority to pass the bill. Now, the Speaker, Mr. Gagbin is teaching the NPP MPs who voted for him a lesson that he’s an NDC member and can never be neutral when it comes to parliamentary affairs.
He’s now showing his true colours, contrary to the neutrality impression the NPP parliamentarians initially had about him and abandoned their own Mr. Ocquaye and voted for his speakership. They haven’t seen anything yet until Mr. Gabgin eventually through prospective parliamentary affairs fully makes them realize their stupidity. Recalling how an NDC MP sent a sharp object to parliament and slashed an NPP MP during the incident is an indicative to the NPP MPs that they’re dealing with a violent opposition parliamentarians. They must bow their heads in shame for voting for Mr. Gabgin’s speakership.
Thanks for the space provided.
