The Vice President of Ghana, who is aspiring to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the election 2024, is all set to pick up nomination forms today.
Sources close to the camp of the Vice President says that he will file the forms today.
Vice President Bawumia is among the leading contenders in the flag bearer race, and has been touted by various polls as the man who would likely emerge the winner.
Vice President Bawumia emerged on the political scene ahead of election 2008, when he was plucked out of relative political obscurity by then Candidate Akufo-Addo to be his running mate. Even though the attempt on the Presidency at the time failed, Nana Akufo Addo, who is now Ghana’s President, and his ally remained faithful to each other through thick and thin, going through the harrowing election 2012 defeat and its consequential election petition together.
As history records, their attempt to win back the Presidency through a court petition failed, but it taught them necessary lessons, leading to the victory in 2016.
Bawumia emerged as the star performer in the 2013 Presidential Election Petition hearing, portraying him as a political star in his own right.
An economist, he was the head of the investigation into the various malfeasance committed in the conduct of Election 2012, went on to become the Star Witness of the Plaintiff in the Election 2012 Petition.
Bawumia has been credited with many of the new reforms by the Akufo Addo government, and he is seen as viable presidential material.
