Atiwa East MP Abena Osei-Asare is pushing for an independent, cross-party parliamentary investigation into recurring cocaine seizures connected to Ghana, casting doubt on government’s approach to tackling drug trafficking. The former Deputy Finance Minister said the frequent interception of suspected cocaine consignments at home and abroad points to gaps in enforcement and a lack of accountability.
In a post on Facebook, she referenced seizures at Pedu, Takoradi and Tema, along with Ghana-linked shipments allegedly impounded in Australia, Dunkirk and most recently Beirut, where Lebanese Customs reported 46.7kg while Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission quoted about 40kg. She argued that the pattern of busts demands full disclosure from government, questioning how many more interceptions would occur before Ghanaians are given answers.According to her, the latest Beirut case raises questions about assurances given by Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak to the Public Accounts Committee on October 20th

regarding enhanced airport screening and anti-trafficking checks. She also faulted NACOC for announcing the controlled delivery operation while suspects believed to be in Ghana are yet to be arrested, warning that such publicity could tip off accomplices, and demanded clarity on who sponsored the shipment and the outcome of previous investigations.
