The Chief Justice has assured the general public that the premises of courts in Ghana are safe.
He has stated that the accidental discharge of a gun on 23rd February, 2022, was a one-off incident and that such a thing has never happened on the premises of the courts before.
This was contained in a press release yesterday signed by Justice Cynthia Pamela A. Addo, Judicial Secretary. It was titled ‘Accidental Discharge of Live Weapon at the Law Court Complex, Accra’.
The statement said that the attention of His Lordship the Chief Justice has been drawn to an unfortunate incident which occurred 23rd February, 2022, at the High Court, Criminal Division, Court’5’, Law Court Complex, Accra, involving a Prison Warden on duty who discharged his weapon and injured his foot.
“This is the first time such an incident has occurred within the Courts thus likely to cause fear and panic.
However, the general public is hereby informed that thorough investigations are underway, whilst security measures are being put in place to avoid a recurrence.
“Management of the Judicial Service therefore wishes to assure all stakeholders and the general public of their safety in and around the Courts,” the statement concluded.
