Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has disclosed that unfaithfulness would not, on its own, be sufficient reason for her to terminate a romantic relationship, offering an unusually candid account of her approach to love, betrayal and emotional commitment.
The award winning singer made the revelation during a podcast conversation in which she reflected on her personal experiences with relationships, heartbreak and the challenges that can arise between partners.
Tiwa Savage explained that she has never brought a relationship to an end because a partner was unfaithful to her. She also maintained that she has never cheated on any of her partners.
“I never cheated in my relationships and I never left anyone for cheating,” she stated.
According to the singer, she considers certain other forms of misconduct to be more serious breaches of trust than infidelity. She specifically mentioned stealing and drug use as behaviours that could persuade her to leave a relationship.
Tiwa Savage revealed that she has previously walked away from relationships because of such circumstances, although some of the men involved later returned to apologise and seek reconciliation.
“Some men stole from me indirectly. I would leave, then they would come and apologise and I would take them back. But cheating wasn’t a deal breaker for me,” she said.
The celebrated musician also recalled an occasion when a partner was unfaithful to her, yet she chose to forgive him rather than end the relationship.
Despite extending forgiveness and deciding to remain committed, Tiwa said the relationship eventually came to an end after the man himself chose to leave.
“A guy once cheated on me. I forgave him, but he still left me because I don’t see cheating as a reason to break up,” she added.
Her comments have drawn attention because they present a personal perspective on infidelity that differs from the position held by many people who regard cheating as an immediate justification for ending a romantic relationship.
For Tiwa Savage, however, the decision to remain in or leave a relationship appears to depend on the broader conduct of a partner and the extent to which other actions undermine trust, security and the stability of the relationship.
The singer’s disclosure also adds to a growing body of public conversations among African entertainers about relationships, loyalty and the personal boundaries that influence decisions surrounding love and commitment.
