The Ghana Police Service says that it has commenced an investigation into an alleged attack on the convoy of the
Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in Techiman, Bono East Region, on Monday, December 2, 2024.
According to police preliminary reports, the incident occurred as the Asantehene returned from a funeral in
Nkoranza.
Some youth, believed to be from Techiman, reportedly threw stones at buses within the convoy, causing disruption.
In a statement, the police stated that they are working closely with the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi and relevant
stakeholders in Techiman to ascertain the facts and address the situation.
They therefore urged the public to remain calm and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
The Daily Searchlight is of the firm believe that the attack was as a consequence of the rhetoric from certain
misguided elements in the Bono regions, who constantly harp back at the refrain that the Asante is somekind of
enemy of the Bono.
This hackneyed, over beaten drum has found a fertile soil in the ears and minds of some people, leading to the attack
the other day.
One particular Bono leader notorious for such posturing is clearly identifiable in our media. But as is usual in
Ghana, it has been impossible for us to find a leader with enough credibility to tell this gentleman over his baiting,
and the latest events is as a consequence.
We believe that we should find the opportunity to tell our youth, that life is how we make it, and not to be so
dependent on so-called ‘leadership’, who are supposed to be responsible for our failings.
