Pep Guardiola says Manchester City have plans in place for continued success and will not suffer when he decides to leave.

The former Barcelona boss is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad, though there are no signs of discontent or a potential departure before next season.

Guardiola has signed two contract extensions with City having joined in 2016 on an initial three-year deal as Manuel Pellegrini’s successor and firmly believes the club will continue to enjoy success after he’s gone.

“There will be zero problems. I am 100 per cent convinced about that. The club knows exactly what is the target and the next step,” said Guardiola.

“They know the strategy. They know what they have to do right now, after the World Cup, next season and then the following seasons.

“When a club depends on one person they have problems because the club is not solid. It is unstable. The foundation of the club is why the team is solid.

“If the club just depends on Pep then the club is not doing really well in this period. If the club depends just on one player – like the striker who scores the goals – then that will not be a good team.’

City continue their Premier League title defence on Sunday by hosting local rivals Manchester United – managed by Guardiola’s old colleague Erik ten Hag – and the Catalan praised the Dutchman ahead of the clash.

He added: “I have a lot of admiration for Erik. His work in Holland, especially in Ajax in the last period, was an incredible example across Europe.

“But he knows it will depend on the results. I’m still here because we won in the past, otherwise I would not be here.

“Results give you time to build what you want, but I have a good opinion about United. If they decide to buy Erik it is because they believe he is the man.”
