Major League Soccer is back in full swing after the June international window, and the goals did not disappoint. It was a weekend of stunning set pieces, with Gustavo Bou and Deiber Caicedo leading the way.
But ultimately, it was a classic by Graham Zusi that topped the list.
Here’s all you need to know about this week’s edition…
To kick off, we have Alejandro Bedoya. The Philly captain opened the scoring against FC Cincinnati with a stunning left-footed strike into the bottom corner. Though the goal was not enough to win the match, the Union remain hot in third place of the Eastern Conference table.
The Brazilian does it again for the Red Bulls. The New York side defeated Toronto FC 2-0 thanks to an initial goal by Lewis Morgan and Luquinhas’ volley over goalkeeper Quentin Westberg.
The first set piece to make the list. Caicedo hit bullseye in the 43rd minute of the match vs. Dallas with his right-footed rocket into the right side of the goal. Goalkeeper Maarten Paes attempted to make the save but there was no stopping the strike.
Now, onto the second set piece goal of the list: Gustavo Bou vs Minnesota United. His right-footed shot found the upper left corner of the goal beautifully, leaving New England Revolution players speechless.
And at the top of the list: Graham Zusi. His left-footed strike into the top left corner of the goal doubled the lead for Sporting Kansas City. Though Nashville eventually pulled one back, the striker’s efforts were enough to lead the visiting side to the much-needed three points.Â
