Chelsea dwarf the three other teams in terms of club stature and financial muscle, but the Bees, Cottagers and QPR have all enjoyed their own moments of glory throughout their histories.

Here’s all you need to know about the west London derby and its various iterations.

West London derbies take place between any two of Brentford, Chelsea, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. However, the volume of games throughout the years has been affected by the teams being separated by divisions.

Brentford vs Chelsea

Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 means Chelsea are a much more regular opponent for the Bees than usual.

The pair squared off in three FA Cup games during the 2010s, having previously not faced each other since 1950. Chelsea earned a couple of 4-0 wins in the cup before Brentford earned their first win at Stamford Bridge since 1939 in 2022, when they ran riot in a 4-1 victory.

Chelsea vs Queens Park Rangers

QPR have been members of the Football League since 1920 but they didn’t meet Chelsea in a fixture until 1968, when Tommy Baldwin netted a brace alongside further strikes from Alan Birchenall and Peter Osgood.

They clashed during QPR’s yo-yo stints in the Premier League during the early 2010s, with the Hoops even earning a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge in 2013 thanks to Shaun Wright-Phillips’ strike.

Fulham enjoyed an unbeaten streak of six games in their opening battles with QPR before suffering their first head-to-head defeat in 1973 in the Second Division.

In more recent years, Fulham have had few issues disposing of QPR, failing to lose a game to their west London rivals since 2016.

First game: Fulham 1-0 Queens Park Rangers – 13 January 1906

Chelsea 1-0 Fulham – 14 April 2002

This FA Cup semi final took place at Villa Park as Chelsea edged Fulham to set up a final meeting with Chelsea.

John Terry’s strike just before half time proved to be the difference between the two teams.Fulham haven’t reached that stage of the competition since.

Brentford 1-2 Fulham (AET) – 4 August 2020

Brentford headed into the Championship play-off final as favourites but couldn’t get the job done against a resilient Cottagers outfit.

After 90 goalless minutes, David Raya was caught out by a Joe Bryan free kick 40 yards from goal in extra time before the left netted another after linking up with Aleksandar Mitrovic. Henrik Dalsgaard pulled one back but the damage had already been done.

Chelsea 1-4 Brentford – 2 April 2022

Brentford have more often than night been on receiving end of losses to Chelsea but broke a run of eight games without victory against the Blues by romping to a 4-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.

All five goals came in the second half as Antonio Rudiger opened the scoring, but two strikes from Vitaly Janelt and another from Christian Eriksen had the visitors 3-1 up by the hour mark. Yoane Wissa’s 87th minute effort made it a thrashing.

Fulham and Brentford met in the top flight for the first time ever earlier in 2022/23 as it was the Cottagers who triumphed 3-2.

Brentford and Chelsea shared a goalless draw before Fulham beat the Blues, with three west London derbies still to play this campaign.
