Paris Saint-Germain have announced that Marco Verratti has signed a new deal with the club, extending his stay in the French capital.

Verratti signed for PSG in 2012 after rising through the ranks at Pescara and has blossomed into one of the world’s greatest midfielders in the decade since.

He won his eighth Ligue 1 title with the club at the end of last season – becoming the first player to achieve the feat – and has remained a key cog in the machine this year under Christophe Galtier.

The club confirmed Verratti had signed a deal through to 2026 via their official Twitter account, ensuring the 30-year-old will remain in Paris through the Autumn of his career.

Verratti is currently sitting on 395 appearances for the club, the second most in PSG history behind only Jean-Marc Pilorget. His new deal means there is a very real possibility the Italian midfielder finishes as their all-time appearance maker.

The news was confirmed on the night PSG return to action following the World Cup break, taking on Strasbourg in Ligue 1. Verratti starts in the base of midfield alongside Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz, taking his appearances to 396 and giving him the chance to celebrate the new deal with a victory.
