Report by Nana POKU
A group by the name ‘Fixing The Country’ has emphatically stated that since independence, no Government has improved the intake and quality of education more than the current president, Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo Addo in the annals of the country’s educational history.
Addressing the Media in Accra, the spokesperson of the group named Mr. Fadi declared that in the first four years of the president, the ministry of education under Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Dr. Yaw Adutwum came out with the Free SHS that has paved the way for many poor children to receive second-cycle education.
They stated that children of poor homes from all corners of the country now have to access education. According to the group, this has placed Ghana on the map of the world as a progressive country in achieving millennium goal 4 of universal quality education for all children of school-going age.
Mr. Fadi reasoned that creating a system to absorb a growing population of teeming youth was a hard task but the government dared it. In addition to the escalating numbers, the Government has also completed most unfinished Day Schools left by the previous regime as well as fixed most infrastructural deficits.
These Day Schools had have been provided with science labs, ICT facilities as well provided buses. The group highlighted some new developments like TVET which has been chosen as autonomy to run alongside with the SHS course line to train technical manpower to power our industries.
As a result, 32 new ultra-modern TVETs are being built across the length and breadth of the country to train our youth to be able to be innovative and creative.
Accordingly, all the Technical Universities and Polytechnics have been improved and equipped to serve as the continuation of the TVETS.
Again some new STEM schools have been built or are being built to produce core science graduates to help turn things around in the country as that will transform the country into an industry-based one.
Pictures of some of these schools were shown to the press. In addition, an industrial technical institute has been established at East Legon to train the youth to manufacture robots, spare parts, and equipment.
“All these have been done within the four years of Nana Addo. They opined that this is an unbeatable record no one can rubbish no matter how hard they try. They called on the media to tell this good story to the world.
