A man who reportedly jumped into the lion enclosure at Accra Zoo ostensibly to steal cubs, has been mauled to death.
The unidentified man was found dead in the enclosure, and authorities believe his death is as a result of misadventure.
The Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission has announced that officials of the Accra Zoo on a routine patrol, noticed a middle aged man ( an intruder) had jumped the security fences and entered the lions’ enclosure of the zoo
The motive of the intruder whose name has not yet been identified is yet to be determined.
What occasioned the demise of the intruder was that, he was attacked and injured by one of the lions within the fencing of the enclosure.
According to the Forestry Commission the intruder has been confirmed dead from injuries sustained and the body has been conveyed to the morgue.
After a successfully coaxing the lions into a secure hold, the Achimota police were invited by the Accra Zoo Authorities to come and convey the body to commence methodical investigations.
However, the Accra Zoo Authorities corroborated that the lions were safe, saying, “The lions, the lioness and the two (2) cubs remain secured in their enclosure at the zoo.”
The Forestry Commission per their statement assured the general public that no lion has escaped from the Accra Zoo.
The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission Hon.Banito Owusu Bio and John Allotey respectively invited the Zoo Authorities to ensure all facilities remain secure.
