Mad rush for National Health Insurance Cards as gov’t adds childhood cancers to the scheme

The District Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) of Ashiedu Keteke, Mr. Christian Asante has expressed his gratitude to the people of Chorkor for their massive attendance for their registration and enrolment on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

 

He hinted that government in its quest to address the health needs of children have added childhood cancers to the scheme which includes kidney, leukemia, solid tumor, eye as well as family planning services free of charge at the respective hospitals in the country.

The District Manager explained that the addition of the childhood cancer to the NHIS will play a key role in improving the survival of children with cancer adding that children with such challenge must not been relegated in the healthcare value chain due to the inability to afford the cost of service.

 

Mr. Christian Asante made this assertions to the media during the registration exercise at Chorkor, an Accra suburb in the Greater Accra Region which witnessed thousands of people being registered and enrolled on the Scheme which forms part of the weeklong celebration of the NHIS.

 

He said the National Health Insurance Card is now linked with the Ghana card hence holders of both cards will receive healthcare delivery services at any hospital across the country.

 

According to him the ongoing registration exercise is also held at Ablekuma, Osu, La and therefore urged the citizenry to take advantage of the exercise since it is now closer to their door steps and pointed out that our health needs is paramount in our daily lives.

 

It will be recalled that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) launched its long week NHIS celebration on the theme, “NHIS”: Using the Ghana Card for Expanding Access to Health Care commencing from the 15th to 21st November, 2021 with lineup of activities comprising awareness creation through floats on the principal street of Accra, road shows in the regions and district, customer services, public lecture, registration and renewals using Ghana card and climax with thanksgiving service by management and staffs.

 

Ms. Ruby Commey, a resident of Chorkor in an interview expressed her delight after successfully receiving her card and urged all residents who have not yet enrolled on the scheme to quickly take advantage of the ongoing exercise.
