Lee Grant announces retirement from professional football

Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39.

The stopper was largely a Championship mainstay throughout his career, featuring for Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley prominently, though he did make 28 Premier League appearances for Stoke during the 2016/17 season.

He joined United in 2018 and made two appearances in the four terms he spent at Old Trafford, with the likes of David de Gea, Sergio Romero and Dean Henderson featuring more often.

He said: “After 511 appearances, I’ve decided it’s the right time to move into the next stage of my career.

“There have been so many fun moments mixed in with the odd challenge, but I’m grateful for each and every one.
