Accra, June 18, GNA – Mr. Linford Asamoah Boadu, Chief Executive Officer of Kotoku Royals, says they will have to augment their squad if they are to sustain their Ghana Premier League (GPL) status.
The Akim Oda-based side secured qualification for the first time in their club’s history after topping Zone three of the 2021/22 Division One League.
According to Mr Asamoah Boadu, who doubles as the Eastern Regional Football Association Chairman, they are in search of a new gaffer following the departure of their coach.
Speaking in an interview with GNA Sports, the GFA Exco member said adding more quality to the team was vital to their performance in the GPL next season, and they would have to get a coach that fits into their agenda.
“We are looking for a new coach who can fit into our agenda and ensure that our aim is achieved. We have to augment our squad, which is very critical to our stay in the league,” he said.
When asked about how meaningful qualifying for the GPL was to the people of Akyem, Mr. Asamoah Boadu said: “I am extremely happy about our qualification for the GPL because it is a historic feat for the Akyem Kotoku area. People in the area are often business-minded considering the vast natural resources at our disposal, so we set up this team to entertain the people.
“I also wanted to unite the people of Akyem Kotuman through football, and I was amazed at the level of happiness that engulfed the people following our qualification for the GPL.
He further noted that one of the objectives of setting up the team was to help under-privileged football talents so that they could have a bright playing career and that lots of players have been sent to some foreign teams.
