An aspiring Chairman for the upcoming NPP executive elections for Chairman, Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi has outlined his plans and vision for the party and stated that he has what it takes to lead the NPP to break the eight and beyond.
The good old professor made this statement when he met the Press after filing to contest the forthcoming NPP national executive elections at the party headquarters in Accra.
He said the position he is vying for needs brain power, calculations, determination, boldness, commitment, loyalty, firmness and good strategies among others to win victories for the party at all times.
He bemoaned the disappearance of commitment and loyalty that founding fathers started the part with where some of them sold their properties, lost their jobs, run into exile and got imprisoned because of the love for party.
The professor mentioned the likes of BJ Da Rocha, Peter Ala Adjetey, Odoi Sykes, Peter Mac Manu and others as exemplary leaders who sacrificed their lives to lead the party in difficult times. This according to the learned professor strengthens him to put himself up for the position he is contesting for.
“Going round the country a lot of people are calling for someone who will knit the party together and heal wounds and l stand for that unity and teamwork. We must avoid what happened in 1979 and other times in our party,” he said.
Recounting history he said in 1979, as a result of misunderstanding and petty squabbles, the party lost power to relatively unknown Dr Hilla Limann of PNP. In 2008 the same thing happened with 17 aspirants and the party lost power. In 2020 the party lost 32 seats from 169 to 137 as a result of the same misunderstanding, so, the professor proposed three point agenda to see the party through in 2024; Unity, Commitment, Discipline as his main tools to win the forthcoming elections.
He said the party needs unity to move together as a mass to face any force and conquer it; the party also needs discipline for people to use appropriate channels to seek redress and follow the party rules and regulations; and people must be committed to kill themselves for the party as was before.
He recounted his track record in political, civil, public and academic that definitely put him ahead of other competitors. He assured the delegates of an open door and human- centered policy.
He again touched on his envisaged welfare scheme and expatiated on it as a policy to address the reward for party officers both serving and retired. He called on delegates to vote massively for him to come and put the party on stronger and better footing at all times.
