The forward has been out of favour all season under manager Xavi Hernandez, making just four appearances for the club in all competitions.

As such, Memphis has been keen to leave Barcelona in favour of a new challenge and 90min understands that he has now agreed terms ahead of a move to Atletico Madrid. Barça had originally been keen to get a fee of around €10m for the Netherlands international’s services but have had to make do with a fee between €3m-5m instead.

One thing that wasn’t included in any deal for Memphis was Yannick Carrasco going in the opposite direction, with Atleti being unwilling to let the Belgian leave the club.

In order to get the deal over the line, 90min can report that Memphis has agreed to forgo the remaining six months of his current Barcelona contract.

On this edition of Talking Transfers, Scott Saunders hosts Toby Cudworth & Graeme Bailey to discuss all the big transfer stories. This week’s agenda includes Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Hakim Ziyech, Leandro Trossard, Pedro Porro, Mykhaylo Mudryk and more!

Memphis signed for Barça on a free transfer in June 2021 and after settling in well at Camp Nou early on, he soon fell out of favour following the sacking of Ronald Koeman and subsequent appointment of Xavi Hernandez.

Now the Dutch star will take the place of Joao Felix in the Atletico Madrid lineup after the Portuguese forward signed for Chelsea on a loan deal until the end of the 2022/23 season.
