Tema, June 19, GNA-Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson, President of Celtel Network Limited, called on the Government to focus more on empowering state institutions especially the media including the Ghana News Agency with the needed technological tooling to help in the digitalization drive.
He said even though there existed private-owned media houses in the Western countries, the state-owned were properly tooled making them more powerful and impactful than the private ones, adding that sadly the opposite was what existed in Ghana.
He described the Ghana News Agency as one of the most powerful press houses in the world with the only difference between it and the BBC, CNN, and Al-Jazeera among others that had been empowered digitally.
Dr. Kludjeson, who is a Past President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) was speaking at the Ghana News Agency-Tema Industrial News Hub Boardroom Dialogue platform on the topic, “The new global economy and technological education.”
The GNA Tema Industrial News Hub Boardroom Dialogue is a media think-tank platform for state and non-state and commercial and business operators to communicate to the world and address global issues.
He argued that state media institutions must be empowered with digital transformation to enable them to lead the media fraternity in the country, stressing the integration of digital technology into all aspects of organisations resulted in significant changes in how the companies functioned and improved the outcome of those companies.
Dr. Kludjeson added that the digital revolution had caused huge changes in the way news was produced, managed, delivered, consumed, and shared.
He noted that the ideology behind their establishment was to project the image of the country by reporting unbiased news to mobilize citizens for nation-building, economic, and social development among others.
He said for state media houses to thrive, they needed to keep technology at the heart of what they do to help them create compelling content and services for distribution to monetize their content more efficiently.
The President of Celltel Network explained that technology had changed many aspects of the world as such, state media houses needed to adapt to keep up with the new digital revolution adding that digital transformation had become a norm for many companies and institutions.
He said if state media houses could expand their scope and domain to reach out and cater for the new generation of consumers, who look for information in brief multimedia modules, the country would be the greatest beneficiary.
Mr. Francis Ameyibor, Ghana News Agency Tema Regional Manager commended Dr. Kludjeson for the pioneering role he has played in the digitalization and digitization revolution in the country.
