(Caution; this news item contains highly disturbing images).

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has a difficult time ahead in the coming months as individuals and party members jostle and scheme to assume pole positions in the party.

Reports are emerging that factions for and opposed to Hon. Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, MP for Sefwi Akontombra Constituency in the Western North Region have been clashing, with machetes, cudgels and knives on display, leading to several injuries.

The reports from Sefwi Akontombra constituency suggest that a clear division has emerged as forces try to scheme to remove the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Alex Tetteh Djornobuah.

Meanwhile the District Chief Executive of Sefwi Akontombra constituency, Hon. Yawson Amoah has been arrested following an event of kidnapping that he allegedly perpetrated.

Reports suggest that he was operating as part of a team of political bigwigs in the party in the region intent on filling key positions in the NPP in the region.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) is reported to have allowed his official vehicle for the kidnapping of the former DCE of the Sefwi Akontombra district, Hon. Appiah-Kubi at his residence on Thursday at about 9pm after incidents of political differences.

Meanwhile, sources close to the DCE insist that he was only invited by the police to assist with investigations, and that he was not arrested as is being bandied about.

In a swift response late yesterday, a *DISCLAIMER* was brought to our attention thus;

“Our attention has been drawn to a media platforms circular authored by Yussif Muphtaw on a well calculated and deliberate falsehood that Hon. Yawson Amoah, the District Chief Executive for Sefwi Akontombra has been arrested.
We are urging the general public to disregard such well planned malicious statement from the said personality.
*God be with us all*

Daily Searchlight reporters in the area suggest that officials are tightlipped over the emerging scandal.

Details remain murky, but the victim is said to been driven towards the Dadieso-Suaman road and was later left at the residence of the District Chief Executive for the Suaman-Dadieso District.

Hon. Yawson Amoah is currently in the custody of the Western North Regional Police Command assisting in investigations for further actions.

The official vehicle of the District Chief Executive with registration number GC – 2033 – 18, which was used for the kidnapping exercise has also been impounded by the Crime Unit of the Regional Police Command.

It is also important to clarify that the polling stations elections have been peaceful across the entire region, except for the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency.

The public is therefore assured that the Regional Police Command is working assiduously to restore peace in the constituency and ensure justice for the deserving.

Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area has condemned the violence in absolute terms.

(Below is the NDC statement).

The NDC in Western North is highly disappointed in the NPP in relation to their internal party polling station election.
The promulgation of the 1992 Constitution ushered in the fourth Republic of Ghana. In that, we chose the democratic path instead of the military rule. Our constitution provides for the formation of political parties and the right of individuals to join any of these political parties. As bastions of democracy, we wholly condemn the violent nature which has characterized the NPP elections in the Western North region.
As a democratic state, one surest way of consolidating our democracy is through a free and fair election at all levels. Ensuring the principles of universal adult suffrage and the expression of choice. However, this hasn’t been the case of the NPP in their internal elections in the Western North region. There have been evidences of conspicuous violence and machinations.
This we believe isn’t right and has the tendency of derailing our gains as region and country at large. We in the NDC highly condemn this barbaric act and calls on the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly so to protect lives and properties as mandated of them.
We are also cautioning our NPP brothers to desist from this violent act and put on a new cloth of fairness and democracy as expected of them. However, we are telling all aggrieved persons to seek solace in the NDC as our doors are widely opened.
Find attached some pictures of these act from Akontombra Constituency.
