Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he expects Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at Manchester United this summer as the club can’t afford to lose him.
United endured their worst ever Premier League campaign last term, clinging onto sixth spot by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the season and registering a measly 58 points.
With Champions League football off the table, Ronaldo had been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
However, Fernandes has revealed that he expects his international teammate to remain a Red Devil for the foreseeable future.
“What I hope is that Cristiano will be there with me on Monday [in pre-season training], that he’s one of those who will come back later because of the Selecao’s games and I’m not waiting for [anything] more than that,” he told O Jogo.
“As far as I know there is nothing more than that, but everyone knows their future. I don’t believe the club is willing to lose an [asset] like Cristiano.”
Ronaldo has publicly stated his desire to work under new United boss Erik ten Hag during the 2022/23 season, and it appears that the admiration is mutual.
Ten Hag has also expressed his excitement at getting to coach Ronaldo, with the Dutchman even rumoured to be considering handing him the captain’s armband at the expense of Harry Maguire.
