India skipper and talisman, Sunil Chhetri is widely considered to be the greatest player produced by the Blue Tigers with the striker without doubt the biggest matchwinner to come from the country.
Despite coming to the end of his illustrious career, Chhetri is showing no sign of slowing down as seen by his performances in the recently concluded 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers – with the striker scoring four goals in three games to play a big role in India qualifying for successive tournaments for the first time in their history.
The striker reached yet another milestone in his illustrious career when he scored his 84th international goal recently, equalling Hungarian great Ferenc Puskas’ tally.
How many goals has Chhetri scored for India after turning 30?
Since turning 30 on August 3, 2014, Sunil Chhetri appeared in 54 international matches for India so far and has scored 41 goals which is almost half of his total goals tally (84). Since 2017, the India skipper has netted 32 international goals in 37 matches with a ratio of 86.49%.
The 37-year-old who has won a record six All India Football Federation (AIFF) Player of the Year awards, will no doubt look to reach the milestone of 100 goals and it will be interesting to see whether he can reach that mark.
