Report by Eric ASAMOAH
Two brothers yesterday fell onto a Chinese galamsay pit while fishing at Manso Watreso in Amansie South District in the Ashanti region, and drowned.
According to information gathered by Daily Searchlight, the two men Yaw Owusu, 21, and Kofi Bebee, 19 were been fishing in that galamsay pit which is close to their father’s cocoa farms.
Speaking to the Assembly member of the community Hon. Kofi Mensah said the father of the boys came from the Oti region and settled in the community for years working as a cocoa farmer.
He added however that the father passed away last three months ago, leaving behind six children.
The oldest was the late Yaw Owusu, 21, who fell into the galamsay pit and died yesterday.
Hon. Kofi Mensah said, “We were told that the young one got trapped in the pit after he tried to fix a net they were using for fishing. So the elder brother went to his rescue but the two, unfortunately, drowned in the pit.”
He noted that the residents in the community who got a hint of the accident went to the scene and retrieved the bodies.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at St Martin’s Hospital at Manso Agroyesum.
