Mrs. Baaba Cofie, Acting Dean, School of Communications Studies, Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, has advised students to practice their writing skills through the School’s newspaper.
She said writing was their first job, hence, it is imperative for them to practice it effectively.
Mrs. Cofie advised on the side-lines of the re-launch of the Wisconsin News in Accra.
Wisconsin News, a Newspaper project for the practical training of Communication Students of the University, was launched in 2018 for students and the public.
It also serves as a platform for Communication students to practice their writing skills.
Mrs. Cofie said writing was the first job of Communication students, which could easily be indicated in their Curriculum Vitae (CV) as their experience.
“We believe in equipping and training students to be market ready after their programs. We have two studios where students can practice and an online radio station,” she said.
The Daily Searchlight congratulates the authorities at Wisconsin University for the initiative of establishing a newspaper on which students can gain practical, hands-on experience in writing.
Indeed, the ability to communicate effectively through writing is one of the key occupational assets. It is one of the tools by which the individual can distinguish him or herself from other individuals. We, therefore, believe that by establishing a newspaper through which the students can communicate with the general public, and improve their writing skills, the university has taken a key and concrete step towards developing its students.
We hope that other schools would copy this initiative and improve on the concept.
