In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 27, the Service said it was collaborating with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to ensure that all affected employees receive their outstanding payments by the announced deadline.

The GES explained that the delay resulted partly from the closure of the government payroll processing system to facilitate the preparation of October salaries, at a time when the necessary information for processing the promotion arrears was expected to be submitted.

According to the Service, the payment platform is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, October 28, allowing the relevant inputs to be processed to facilitate the settlement of the outstanding amounts by November 16.

Management also assured employees that discrepancies detected in payments made on October 16, 2026, would be corrected to ensure that affected personnel receive the appropriate amounts due them.

The Service expressed regret over the delay and the difficulties it had caused employees awaiting their promotion benefits.

Regional Directors have consequently been instructed to communicate the latest payment arrangements to all staff affected by the outstanding arrears.

The announcement follows remarks by the Minister of Education on JoyNews that he had invited teacher union leaders to a meeting to explain the difficulties surrounding payments to thousands of teachers whose promotion arrears remain outstanding.

According to the minister, approximately 52,000 teachers had received their arrears, while about 28,000 others were still awaiting payment.

The latest assurance from the GES is therefore expected to provide greater clarity for the affected teachers, although the actual settlement of the outstanding amounts will depend on the completion of the necessary payroll processing and payment procedures.

With November 16 now set as the target date, attention will turn to whether the Service and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department can meet the deadline and resolve the outstanding payment discrepancies.
