The Ghanaian youngsters delivered a commanding second half display to secure the vital victory, ensuring their progression to the knockout stage after a challenging start to the tournament.

Following a tightly contested opening period that ended without a goal, Linda Achiaa broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, putting Ghana ahead and giving the team renewed confidence in its pursuit of qualification.

Christiana Ashiaku subsequently sealed the triumph by finding the back of the net in the fifth minute of stoppage time, confirming Ghana’s two goal advantage and triggering celebrations among the players and their supporters.

The victory also provided goalkeeper Belinda Maku Aklie with her first clean sheet of the competition, as Ghana successfully prevented Canada from scoring throughout the encounter.

Ghana concluded the group stage in second place in Group C, accumulating four points from three matches to book a place among the tournament’s last 16 teams.

The Black Maidens had endured a difficult opening to their campaign, suffering a 3-0 defeat against Norway in their first fixture. However, they demonstrated resilience in their subsequent match, fighting to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Brazil before overcoming Canada in the decisive final group encounter.

The turnaround highlights Ghana’s determination to recover from their opening setback and remain competitive on the global stage. Their performance against Canada proved particularly important, as the team converted its opportunity in the final group match into the victory needed to continue its World Cup journey.

With qualification now secured, Ghana will await the conclusion of the remaining group fixtures to determine their opponents in the Round of 16.

The Black Maidens will approach the next stage seeking to build on their improved performances, maintain their defensive discipline and extend Ghana’s participation in the international youth competition.
