The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has been appointed Chairperson of the Accra Green and Clean Street Initiative Steering Committee to lead government’s new Adopt-A-Street programme. The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday, October 15, 2026, by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Local Government, seeks to transform Accra into a cleaner, greener and more attractive city. Under the programme, corporate organisations will be assigned specific streets, medians, roundabouts and public spaces to adopt and maintain. They will be responsible for regular cleaning, landscaping, tree planting and beautification as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, while receiving technical guidance on standards from the Department of Parks and Gardens, Department of Urban Roads and Ghana Highway Authority.
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Ayariga urged the committee to move immediately into action by developing an implementation framework, participation criteria, maintenance standards and monitoring arrangements. He said participating companies would determine how to mobilize resources for the work but must adhere to approved guidelines, with the opportunity for subtle branding on their adopted streets.
The appointment of the Ga Mantse is seen as strategic, leveraging his traditional authority and proven leadership in sanitation campaigns, including leading the 2024 Homowo Clean-Up. The committee includes representatives from the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce, Ghana Bankers Association, Ghana Insurance Association, Private Enterprise Federation, National Road Safety Authority, Environmental Protection Authority, ECG, Ghana Water Company and all MMDAs in Greater A crap.
