The legal proceedings involving Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who is facing an allegation of abetting the publication and dissemination of false information through social media, have been postponed to Monday, October 5, 2026.

The Accra High Court deferred the matter on Wednesday, September 30, as the ongoing conference of judges and magistrates affected the scheduled proceedings. The adjournment means Ms Baffoe will remain in custody until the case returns before the court.

The latest development comes less than a week after the High Court rejected her application for bail on September 24. The prosecution had opposed her release, maintaining that she remained necessary to the continuing investigations into the allegations.

In refusing the application, the court considered the cyber related character of the investigation and held that releasing Ms Baffoe at that stage presented a potential risk of interference with witnesses and the investigative process. The court consequently directed the Republic to accelerate its investigations.

Ms Baffoe’s legal representatives had strongly contested the prosecution’s position and urged the court to grant her bail. Her principal counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, argued that his client was presumed innocent and that the State had not established adequate grounds to warrant her continued detention.

The defence further maintained that the offence with which Ms Baffoe had been charged was a misdemeanour and questioned the basis for the prosecution’s contention that she could compromise the investigation or influence potential witnesses if released.

Her lawyers also brought her family circumstances to the attention of the court, particularly her responsibilities as a mother of three children. They explained that one of her children was preparing to enter Senior High School and that her continued detention was creating difficulties for the family.

Following the refusal of bail, another member of the defence team, Enoch Afoakwa, challenged the evidential foundation upon which the court’s concerns about possible interference had been based.

According to counsel, the Republic’s affidavit relied largely on what he described as bare depositions instead of substantive evidence demonstrating that Ms Baffoe possessed the means or capacity to interfere with witnesses or compromise the investigation.

The defence has subsequently indicated that it intends to challenge the High Court’s decision through an appeal. Counsel has also disclosed plans to petition the Chief Justice in an effort to facilitate an expedited hearing before the Court of Appeal because the matter concerns the liberty of an accused person.

The defence has further questioned the necessity of keeping Ms Baffoe in custody on the basis of concerns surrounding electronic evidence. Her lawyers have pointed out that the police had already taken possession of her mobile phones and had reportedly examined information contained on the devices.

Counsel has therefore questioned how Ms Baffoe could interfere with information that investigators had already obtained from her devices. The defence has maintained that the remaining investigative activity, according to its understanding of the charge sheet, principally concerns individuals allegedly involved in redistributing the material.

Ms Baffoe, a 40 year old Senior Nursing Officer from Techiman, was arrested in September and subsequently brought before the Adentan Circuit Court. She pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime relating to the alleged publication of false news under Sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, Act 29.

The prosecution alleges that Ms Baffoe acted as a liaison for United Kingdom based TikTok personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as Ghana Jollof, and assisted in recruiting individuals to redistribute videos allegedly produced by Ms Kodua across different social media platforms.

Investigators further allege that financial transactions between the two women formed part of the arrangement. According to the police allegations, Ms Kodua transferred money to Ms Baffoe to facilitate the dissemination of the videos, after which portions of the funds were allegedly passed on to other individuals involved in circulating the material.

The police are also pursuing investigations into Ms Kodua in connection with allegations involving the publication of false news, incitement and offensive conduct associated with the Ghana Jollof account. Authorities have declared her wanted as investigations continue.

The allegations against Ms Baffoe remain matters before the court and have not been established by a final judicial determination. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Her continued detention has also generated public discussion. On September 29, a group of women organised a demonstration in Accra calling for her release, while concerns have been raised publicly about the impact of her detention on her children.

For now, the case remains before the Accra High Court, with Monday, October 5, 2026, set as the next date for proceedings. Ms Baffoe will remain in custody pending that hearing and any further determination by the court regarding her application for liberty.
