The Ghana Police Service has postponed the full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement initiative, TRAFFITECH GH, from October 1 to November 1, 2026, to provide additional time for motorists and the wider public to understand how the system will operate.

The Police Service said the one month extension would be used to intensify public education and awareness activities before the programme becomes fully operational.

According to the Service, the expanded educational campaign will explain the operational procedures of TRAFFITECH GH, the various road traffic violations that the system is designed to identify and the process through which Electronic Notices of Violation will be issued to motorists who breach traffic regulations.

The initiative, which is being administered through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service, forms part of broader efforts to strengthen enforcement of road traffic laws and promote greater discipline among road users.

The Police Service said the additional period would allow drivers, vehicle owners and other motorists to become sufficiently acquainted with the automated enforcement system before its revised implementation date.

In a statement issued on September 29, 2026, the Service encouraged motorists to use the extra month to familiarise themselves with the requirements and procedures associated with TRAFFITECH GH in preparation for its full commencement on November 1.

The programme is intended to employ automated technology to identify specified traffic offences and support the enforcement of road safety regulations, thereby reducing reliance on conventional enforcement methods in situations where violations occur.

The Police Service has therefore urged motorists to pay closer attention to traffic regulations and ensure that their vehicles and driving practices comply with the applicable requirements before the system becomes fully operational.

The Service also expressed appreciation to the media for its contribution to publicising TRAFFITECH GH and providing information to motorists and the general public about the forthcoming enforcement system.

It reaffirmed its intention to work closely with relevant stakeholders throughout the implementation process, emphasising that sustained public awareness and cooperation would be important to the successful operation of the initiative.

The revised November 1 commencement date consequently gives motorists an additional four weeks to understand the automated enforcement framework, the offences that may trigger Electronic Notices of Violation and the obligations that will arise when such notices are issued.

The Police Service maintained that the broader objective of TRAFFITECH GH is to strengthen compliance with road traffic laws and contribute to improved safety on Ghana’s roads as the country continues to confront persistent challenges associated with traffic indiscipline and road user behaviour.
